YOUR OWN PLATE CAN BE SUPPLIED FROM AS LITTLE AS £250
(PLUS ASSIGNMENT FEE AND SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY AT DVLA SWANSEA)

A prefix registration has three elements, the prefix letter, then a number containing up to three digits along with virtually any three letters. (For Example -- M3 KJT)

TO MAKE YOUR OWN PREFIX PLATE SIMPLY :-

A) Choose a prefix from : A,B,C,D,E,G,H,J,K,L,M,N,P,R,S,T,V,W,X or Y.
You must not make your vehicle seem newer than it is.
(i.e. A 1997(R) registered vehicle can have a prefix between A to R inclusive but not a prefix after R hence making it look newer than it really is).

B) Choose a number between 1 and 20 (selected higher numbers also available).
Certain numbers were kept back from general release by the DVLA in past years to sell at their auctions or to sell as "Make Your Own Plates" and because of this certain prefix combinations vary.
Basically the numbers 1 to 20 were available in all the prefixes from A to Y reg other than F.
Then 22, 30, 33, 40, 44, 50, 55, 60, 66, 70, 77, 80, 88, 90, 99, 100, 111, 200, 222, 300, 333, 400, 444, 500, 555, 600, 666, 700, 777, 800, 888, 900, 999 were also available from J to Y reg in addition to the basic 1 to 20.
Then 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 123 and 321 were available from S to Y reg and 121 was available from T to Y reg.
Hence an A to H reg has only 20 numbers available for each three letter combination but a Y reg has 65 numbers available for each three letter combination.
Note: F prefix not released yet.

C) Add three letters of your choice.
For Example -- M3 KJT -- C44 YES

D) Phone us with your requirements.
It is advisable to have more than one choice owing to availability.

E) We check the registration has not already been issued.
We then call you back to advise the cost and if you wish to proceed we take a deposit of £100 online by Nochex and the balance is then paid by either bank transfer, cash or cheque.

F) We then assign the registration to your vehicle.
We confirm in writing your order and request your vehicle documents so we can assign the registration to your vehicle or the registration can be supplied on an entitlement certificate if you wish.

Please Note: There is one guiding rule on the assignment / transfer of a registration and that is you cannot make the vehicle appear newer. Hence you could not put a 1997(R) registration on a 1996(N) vehicle because it would give the impression that the vehicle was newer than first registered. But you are allowed to make a vehicle appear older.

The New Style Registration

The New Style registration, which commenced on September 1st 2001, has seven characters and includes local and age identifiers. The first two letters are the local office identifier where the registration was first issued then the two numbers are the age identifier which will change every six months in March and September and finally the last three letters are a random choice. (For Example -- KJ51 KJT).

Lots of combinations and ideas are possible:-

A his 'n' hers registration.
Clare Smith and David Thomas Smith might like to choose CS02 DTS

If David Thomas Smith was a soccer player with the number two shirt he could have NO02 DTS

Similarly Doctor Melanie Jane Smith could have DR02 MJS

The combinations with names like ANN, BOB, ROB, SUE or if you drive a BMW, JAG, TVR etc are endless. DH02 TVR or DH02 BMW.

For Dean Hone who considers himself to be something of a comedian, how about DH02 FUN.

Or for the more risky how about UR02 HOT, AR51 YOU etc.

TO MAKE YOUR OWN NEW STYLE PLATE SIMPLY :-

A) Choose the first two letters.
The first letter can be either A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, V, W or Y
followed by either A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X or Y.

B) Choose the number.
The 02 series is now available and registrations in the 51 series are also available to purchase. Registrations with subsequent period identifiers such as 52 (September 2002) and 03 (March 2003) will only be available to purchase nearer their date of issue. The 01 series are being held back for the foreseeable future by DVLA.

C) Add three letters of your choice.
The choice is huge and now in this new style the letter Z is allowed but only in the last 3 letters.

D) Phone us with your requirements.
It is advisable to have more than one choice owing to availability.
